INSPECTION & MAINTENANCE CHECK LIST

CLIMBING HELMETS 

Always read manufacturers’ instructions 

Inspection 

¨   ID number present

¨   Helmet shell, harness and chinstrap should be checked for all signs of damage, wear and tear

¨   Helmets should be discarded after heavy impact 

Maintenance 

Clean prior to inspection 

May be washed with cool water and light detergent  

Methylated spirits may be used for heavier markings 

Store hung up, dry and clean away from contaminants and direct sunlight 

Marking 

The helmet harness should be marked with an indelible marker pen. Helmets should not be marked on the plastic shell.
