INSPECTION & MAINTENANCE CHECK LIST
Ropes
Ropes should be carefully examined before and after each use. This examination should be performed as the rope is being coiled or uncoiled. As the rope is run through the hands defects can be detected visually or by touch. Points to note include:
Inspection
¨ ID label present including: unique number, source, length, type, date.
¨ Cuts and abrasions – due to the rope running over sharp or rough surfaces
¨ Glazing or crispness – due to friction, heat damage or possible chemical contamination
¨ Lumps – due to grit in the core
¨ Dents – due to the rope being crushed
¨ Discoloration – due to chemical contamination or prolonged UV exposure
¨ Excessive stiffness – due to over loading possibly as the result of a fall
Maintenance
Ropes can be washed in cool water with mild detergent if necessary, after washing they should be hung loosely to dry out of direct sunlight or heat source.
