INSPECTION & MAINTENANCE CHECK LIST

SLINGS & EXTENDERS 

Slings are manufactured from nylon or polyester webbing sewn together to form a loop. 

Always read manufactures’ instructions 

Inspection 

¨   ID number present 

Webbing 

¨   Cuts and abrasions to webbing

¨   Cuts and abrasions to stitching

¨   Glazing or crispness – due to friction, heat damage or possible chemical contamination

¨   Discoloration – due to chemical contamination or prolonged UV exposure

¨   Excessive stiffness – due to overloading, possibly as the result of a fall 

Maintenance 

Clean prior to inspection, slings can be washed in cool water with mild detergent.  

Store hung up, dry and clean away from contaminants and direct sunlight. 

Marking 

Slings can be marked with indelible marker pen in an area not liable to contamination or structural loading. 

A separate ID tag can be fitted if appropriate, provided it does not interfere with the function of the sling.
